FOR report cited in L.A. Times

Kudos to John Lindsay-Poland, Co-Director of our Task Force on Latin American and the Carribean, for his research earlier this year that led to a report with Amnesty International on extrajudicial killings committed by Colombian army brigades financed by the United States. The report was mentioned in a recent Los Angeles Times story about the increase in the number of civilians killed by US-supported Colombian military units.

Leslie Cagan, UFPJ National Coordinator, to Serve as Honorary Chair at Festival

This year, FOR's fourth-annual Festival of Peace will feature an art show with works on the theme "Peace in the Human Family/Peace with the Earth." Guidelines and entry forms for artists are available on our web site.

Please join us for this wonderful event at our national headquarters in Nyack, NY on September 14th, 2008. Whether or not you can attend the Festival, you can support the program and honor this year's peace prize recipients by taking out an ad in our Commemorative Journal. Please participate in the Festival by contributing in this special way!

FOR is delighted to announce that Leslie Cagan, the national coordinator of United for Peace and Justice -- the coalition of more than 1,400 peace groups across the United States -- will serve as this year's Honorary Chair. Ms. Cagan will speak at the Festival and will participate in the award ceremonies, when the annual Martin Luther King Peace Prize, Pfeffer International Peace Prize, and Local Area Peace Prize are given to this year's honorees.

Stimulate peace!

The U.S. government has launched an "economic stimulus" plan generating $600 checks for many Americans. While the president may hope that we will invest this cash in short-term consumerism, many people of conscience have a better idea.

Turn this money into work for a more peaceful world. Click here to pledge to donate your rebate to FOR.

People of faith come together against the war

The Fellowship of Reconciliation is helping coordinate the Olive Branch Interfaith Peace Partnership, which held a national day of action in Washington, DC on Friday, March 7th to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We ask you to help us press Congress and the White House to take concrete steps to end the war. Four thousand U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, as well as countless Iraqis, and the time has come for immediate change in a failed policy.
